How do I prevent a scaffolding accident?

On Behalf of | Monday Aug 6, 2018 | Personal Injury

When you go to work at a construction site in New York, do you have to work on scaffolding? If so, you likely know what safety equipment you need in order to be allowed on the scaffolding. But, do you know the other safety procedures that need to be followed in order to prevent a scaffolding accident?

Before you step foot on the scaffolding each day, you need to find out if it has been inspected by the safety officer on the construction site. You don’t know if the weather, vandals or some other issue did anything to the scaffolding and how it is secured to the ground and the building. The inspection will determine if it is safe to work.

Once the scaffolding has been inspected and cleared for work, you can board it if you are properly equipped. Make sure you are wearing nonslip shoes and have a hard hat, goggles and your harness ready to go with you onto the scaffolding.

Once on the scaffolding, you need to make sure that all of the tools and building materials are kept organized. There isn’t a lot of space on scaffolding, which is why it’s important to get rid of clutter as much as possible. You don’t want to trip on any of these items.

You need to understand the load capacity of the scaffolding before you put any materials on it. This will ensure that you do not overload the scaffolding, which could lead to it collapsing.

Suffering an injury at work on a construction site due to a scaffolding accident can be tragic. You could find yourself severely injured. If the accident is bad enough it could lead to your death.
